How to Actually Save Selfie
Okay guys, I have a plan, but we have to act quickly.
I spoke with Guy Aoki from MANAA (Media Action Network forAsian Americans ) earlier today about what we can do to #saveselfie. He spoke with a few executives over at ABC this morning about Selfie and I wanted to shed some light on the whole thing:
Basically, Paul Lee, CEO, has been made aware of our campaign to #saveselfie (thanks to Guy Aoki). He is actually very supportive of the show and would like to see it succeed. However, there's a catch - money.
When a show is put on the air, advertisers buy commercial space to sell their product/services. They are usually promised a certain rating that they feel will translate to profit. When a show fails to produce the ratings promised, the network actually OWES the advertisers money. In this case, it's better to simply cancel the show entirely than tocontinue losing money.
So here's where we come in - we need to call the advertisers and convince them that we are a loyal fanbase ACTIVELY watching Selfie on television andpay attention to the ads. Promise to buy Christmas presents from them this year or whatever. Basically drive the point home that we are loyal, committed, and will pour money into saving this show.
So now two things need to be done before that:
We need to re-watch recorded episodes of Selfie to find out who advertised during commercials (TJ Maxx, Icy Hot, Energizer were a few) and compile a complete list.
We need to then find out who is in charge of sponsoring ads on television for each corporation. It is often in themarketing department but each company may be different. Linkedin or simply calling the company and asking around may yield results.
Time is of the essence, so we need to have this done NOW. They've already cancelled next week's episode and replaced it with freakin' Shark something or other, so calling the advertisers and telling them all about our campaign and how it will translate directly to profit will be the most beneficial.
Please add me @heatherjrock and DM me if you want more details. I am happy to take phone calls of those more serious about this task.
Thank you for reading and doing all you can to #saveselfie.
